I love Kate Saunders and she's so rarely mentioned in reading blogs.

Lily Josephine and Night Shall Overtake Us were absolutely wonderful and I couldn't put them down. I also enjoyed Bachelor Boys even though it's more chick-lit than historical.

I'm not a fan of chick lit (too old, i guess), unless Jane Austen counts, but I DO love both Louise Erdrich and Diana Wynne Jones, AND I love Miyazaki's movies. Keep on bloggin'!

This books premise still haunts me though it has been a year since I read it. I think that what the city of the dead says about memory and nostalgia and how it affects us is quite interesting. There were, of course, a few points in the book where characters were introduced or observed by the protagonist in "real life" only so that they could appear later in the city of the dead. Beyond that, though, I thought the story worked well. Had it been any longer, perhaps not, but I thought the sense of melancholy you mentioned wonderfully laced the novel.

I have just finished reading, Chris Chester's book, "Providence of a Sparrow". It is a special book that I will include in my books about birds. Special, because I am partial to House Sparrows. I took my time reading this book reading a page or two at a time. It was so entertaining!!!! I had become acquainted with a male House Sparrow several years back and learned so much about bird behavior--I was fondly named, "The Birdman" to most of my friends and associates! Thanks to my friendly sparrow, "Mr. Bib" for opening my eyes to the little brown birds in our busy lives and thank you, Chris Chester, for sharing your life and "B" with us! Sincerely, Michael Plott
